Fragments of self are isolated, separated, then contained unto themselves. This split of psyche is a representation of extreme and subtle contradictions illustrated by way of the faces or features depicted, and the traditional and subjective symbolism employed.
The relationship that these feminine faces have to the viewer are confrontational, enticing, guarded and sometimes repellant. They are at once asking to be seen, and concealing themselves behind intricate masks and veils — remaining suspended in the friction of indecision. Whether the subjects are receding or emerging from this white space, they do so alone, defined with an economy of line and pattern.
Their boundaries restrain many points of connection but also accommodate spaces where something has slipped through/out and the thick borderline has been breeched, leaving the viewer to find the point of exit/entry, and to ask what has been miscarried/implanted? What has made it through the path which lies between the images?
